He added, "the truth is that my colleague Giorgio Chiellini suffered the physical result of a bite in the collision he suffered with me. For this: I deeply regret what occurred, I apologize to Giorgio Chiellini and the entire football family, I vow to the public that there will never again be another incident like this."
FIFA's disciplinary committee suspended Suarez from playing in nine national team matches, banned him from any football-related activity for four months, and fined him 112,000 U.S. dollars.
It was thanks to Suarez that the team beat Italy 1-0 in the group phase to qualify for the round of 16. With Suarez banished from the team, Uruguay went on to lose 0-2 to Colombia and was eliminated from the World Cup.

Leading fashion brands H&M and UNIQLO have failed to meet quality standards in Beijing, Beijing Morning Post reported.
Swedish fashion chain H&M has been found to be selling unqualified products over the last three years, the Beijing Industrial and Commercial Administrative Bureau stated.
The city's market watchdog had checked products at H&M Shanghai in a routine investigation. The quality inspection report shows the products had failed to meet requirement in terms of color fastness and fiber content.
Japanese casual-wear brand UNIQLO was also fined nearly a million yuan (about $170,000) for not taking substandard products off its shelves.
The company failed to stop selling unqualified products "actively" after substandard product information was published by the bureau.
According to authorities, customers can log on to the bureau's official website and the Beijing Enterprises Credit Information site for a detailed list of unqualified products.
The bureau said it had handled more than 6,000 cases last year, and it would continue to strengthen supervision and efforts to improve product quality.
MANILA, Sept. 28 (Xinhua) -- Philippine Defense Secretary Delfin Lorenzana said on Thursday that an undermined number of the Maute extremists that laid siege to the southern Philippine city of Marawi have offered to surrender.
Lorenzana said a local official, Lanao del Sur Rep. Mauyag Papandayan, relayed to him the pro-Islamic State militants' plan to surrender and give up the fight.
The pro-IS extremists have been fighting the government since May 23, putting up a bitter fight to gain control of the city.
Lorenzana said he welcomes the surrender of the extremists. "I said there's no problem. I told (Papandayan) anytime they want to surrender, they can get out. We won't kill them," Lorenzana said.
Lorenzana did not elaborate on how the Maute extremists reached out to Papandayan to signify their intention to surrender.
Lorenzana said there are less than 100 extremists who are still holed up in the city. On Wednesday, Lorenzana voiced optimism that the conflict may be over this weekend.
